So I replaced the tie rod, ball joint, and wheel bearing on the passenger side. And, with the spindle off and the car jacked up, I had easy access to the passenger side axle/half shaft/CV joints, so I decided to replace just the inner (transmission end) passenger side CV joint and boot. Got the CV parts from idparts.com for around $60.
Some drag is normal due to the contact of the brakes, drag from the drive axles etc. So the wheels will not spin freely like a bicycle. A small amount of effort is required to get them to spin. It's tough to say how much drag is normal. But if you can rotate the tire with a small amount of force, you're probably okay.

Jacked up both sides, wheels off,zapped out bolts,removed inner shields, turned wheels to limit (the rub is I cannot remember which way) and with the suspension "hanging" you can just get them out, if I remember correctly, if not enough, by rotating the CV you can get just the little bit more needed to remove.
All was fine and dandy, nice fast 'blow the cobwebs' run of about 10 miles, all was well until I turned into our small road when it felt like the nearside front Tyre had deflated. I limped the next 100Yds or so and jacked up the front. Nearside wheel has at least 1/4 inch movement at both top/bottom and left/right.
As a rule of thumb, no discernable freeplay should be apparent between the hub and the axle. The wheel should turn freely and quietly.

When the trailer is jacked up you should be able to easily hear and feel some drag on the drums as you rotate the tire. The tire should NOT be able to spin freely as if it had no brake drum. You want to hear and feel some drag on the wheel even when no brakes are applied in the tow vehicle.

Just jacked up the front end in 4x4 and the driveshaft doesn't turn. The wheels spin freely like the front differential is not engaged. Like I said, I replaced the front axle actuator, pulled it off again and it goes in and out, put it back on and still no locking of the diff? Kind of stumped, might take it to a mechanic.

I just jacked it up and I can get the rear wheels to turn. There is a little more drag on the rear passenger but I could turn it. I jacked up each of the front wheels separately and they would only turn about an inch each way and then stop I have the trans in neutral they should free spin right?
